The thing about the "lunatic fringe" is that, ever so often, it coughs up something truly insightful. Whether it holds water under closer scrutiny or not is a matter of perception, much effort and time. But that initial moment when a new (dare I say?) paradigm comes together in your mind is definitely a rush.
